@grufwub not even slightly, it's just very disappointing.

It might not even be something they're doing in bad faith! It could honestly be just a very unfortunate convergence of (1) work to limit legitimately problematic APIs and (2) corporate positioning. But Alphabet has so badly bungled the community engagement part of the Chrome job that even inside-baseball nerds don't¹ trust them to be agents acting on behalf of users anymore.
